Hesse's 80th anniversary contest offers €1,000 prizes to historic clubs
A new competition has launched to celebrate Hesse’s 80th anniversary in 2026. The '8 Clubs, 80 Years, €1,000' initiative invites local clubs to take part for a chance to win cash prizes. Organisers aim to highlight the role of volunteering in the region’s history and future. The Hesse State Volunteering Agency (LEAH) announced the contest as part of the anniversary year 80 Years of Hesse. Clubs marking their own 80th anniversary in 2026 can enter by submitting a short video and a photo. The competition is backed by SV SparkassenVersicherung, which supports community projects and social cohesion.
Eight winning clubs will each receive €1,000 for their treasury. The awards will be presented by State Chancellery Chief Benedikt Kuhn on June 13, 2026, during the Hesse Day festival in Fulda. Former World Cup winner Guido Buchwald will also attend to meet the winners and share his congratulations. Michael Meiers, a board member of SV SparkassenVersicherung, stressed the importance of volunteering as a foundation for strong communities. The insurer’s involvement reflects its commitment to empowering people and building networks for the future.
The competition closes with a ceremony at Hesse Day in Fulda next year. Winners will gain financial support and recognition for their long-standing contributions. The initiative ties into broader celebrations of the state’s history and the role of local clubs.
