Hünfeld's Blue Light Day brings emergency teams and fun to the city centre

Hünfeld’s annual Emergency Services Open Day returns on Saturday, May 30, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The free event will fill the city centre around the town hall with activities for all ages. Mayor Benjamin Tschesnok anticipates a strong turnout, promising something for everyone to enjoy. The ‘Blue Light Day’ will highlight the work of Hünfeld’s emergency teams, including the fire department, police, German Red Cross (DRK), THW, DLRG, and judicial authorities. Visitors can watch live demonstrations, firefighter rescue drills, and a police K-9 unit in action. A DRK CPR Challenge will also let attendees test their first-aid skills.

Children can take part in a stamp rally with a grand prize draw or explore the Action Room for hands-on activities. DKMS will run a stem cell registration drive at the Konrads-City-Kids childcare centre. Meanwhile, a photo exhibition by the Hünfeld Photography Club will be on display. Local retailers will extend their opening hours, and food stalls will offer a variety of culinary options. The event aims to celebrate the dedication of volunteers and the essential role first responders play in the community.

The open day runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Hünfeld’s city centre. It brings together emergency services, interactive activities, and local businesses. Organisers hope the event will raise awareness of volunteer work while providing entertainment for all.
