Hesse Opens Public Consultation on Future of EU Social Funding
Hesse’s residents are being invited to help shape the next phase of the European Social Fund (ESF). The state’s managing authority is now drafting a program plan for the 2028–2034 funding period. Officials are encouraging broad participation to ensure the fund meets local needs and supports long-term development. The ESF has supported education, vocational training, and social inclusion in Hesse for decades. Now, planning for the 2028–2034 period is taking place at European, federal, and state levels. The Hesse government has opened a six-week public consultation, running from May 4 to June 15, 2026.
Minister Hofmann stressed the fund’s importance for both individuals and the region’s sustainable growth. The state’s participation portal is open for submissions, allowing citizens, social partners, associations, municipalities, and organisations to share their views. Authorities hope this process will foster constructive dialogue and help design a stronger future for the ESF in Hesse. The fund’s impact extends beyond local communities, benefiting Germany and Europe as a whole. By gathering input from a wide range of stakeholders, the managing authority aims to create a program that reflects diverse needs and priorities.
The consultation period closes on June 15, 2026, giving residents and groups just over a month to contribute. Their feedback will directly influence the final program plan for the ESF’s next funding phase. The outcome will determine how resources are allocated to support education, training, and social inclusion in Hesse for years to come.
