Crime wave hits the region: Thefts, drugs, and dramatic rescues in one week
A series of incidents across the region has kept local police busy this week. From thefts and break-ins to environmental violations and dramatic rescues, authorities have responded to a range of cases. One arrest has already been made in connection with a bicycle robbery in Elz.
In Elz, two young men stole a 19-year-oldās bicycle before fleeing the scene. Officers later apprehended one of the suspects. Meanwhile, in Runkel-Dehrn, criminal police uncovered a large cannabis cultivation site on LahnstraĆe. The operation contained 289 plants, leading to criminal charges against a 61-year-old local resident for drug cultivation and possession.
An environmental incident occurred in Hadamar after an unknown offender poured an oily substance into a storm drain, contaminating nearby waterways. Emergency services were also called to Frickhofen, where a 32-year-old womanās four-year-old child became trapped inside a locked car. Firefighters successfully freed the child without injury. Traffic enforcement was a priority in Bad Camberg, where police recorded 30 speeding violations during a safety operation near schools on Frankfurter StraĆe. In a separate effort to combat theft, officers in Weilburg and Beselich marked 59 bicycles with security codes. Property crime also struck in Hünfelden, where two burglars broke into an office building in Kirberg. The thieves stole cash and valuables, causing around ā¬3,000 in damage before escaping.
Authorities continue investigations into several unresolved cases, including the bicycle theft in Elz and the office burglary in Kirberg. The cannabis cultivation arrest and speeding crackdown highlight ongoing efforts to tackle both drug-related crime and road safety. The environmental incident in Hadamar remains under examination to identify those responsible.
