Hanau police seize banned knife in first weapon-free zone enforcement
Police in Hanau carried out a routine patrol in the city’s weapon-free zone on Thursday evening. The operation led to the seizure of a banned knife and the launch of administrative proceedings against a local resident. Authorities have confirmed that further patrols of this kind are planned. Hanau’s city centre has been a permanently designated weapon-free zone since August 1, 2025. The restrictions cover large public areas, including Freedom Square, Market Square, and the Palace Gardens. Carrying firearms, bladed weapons, and stun guns is strictly banned in these locations.
During the patrol, officers checked a total of 24 people. In the Palace Gardens, they discovered a 23-year-old Hanau resident carrying a prohibited folding knife. The weapon was immediately confiscated, and administrative proceedings were initiated against the man. The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to enforce the weapon-free zone regulations. Police have indicated that similar patrols will continue in the coming weeks.
The seized knife and the proceedings against the 23-year-old mark the first enforcement action under Hanau’s weapon-free zone rules. The city’s restrictions remain in full effect, with further patrols expected to ensure compliance. Authorities have reiterated that violations will result in immediate confiscation and legal consequences.
