Elderly driver crashes after fleeing police in Mini Cooper chase
A 78-year-old man led police on a short chase through Dreieich-Sprendlingen on Saturday evening. Officers first tried to stop him for a routine check, but he fled in a blue Mini Cooper convertible. The incident ended with a crash and significant damage to another vehicle.
The chase began when police signalled for the driver to pull over. Instead of stopping, he accelerated and drove over sidewalks and green strips. Authorities later suspected he may have panicked because he was driving without a valid license.
The pursuit came to an abrupt end on Eisenbahnstraße. There, the Mini collided with a BMW, causing an estimated €23,000 in damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the crash. Police have since impounded the Mini. The man now faces investigations for driving without a license and possible involvement in an illegal street race. Witnesses who saw the driver's behaviour or may have been put at risk are urged to contact Neu-Isenburg police station.
The incident remains under investigation, with authorities focusing on the driver's lack of a valid license. The total cost of the damage has been set at €23,000. Police continue to seek information from anyone who witnessed the events leading up to the collision.
