Drunk e-scooter rider fakes assault after crashing in Kassel

A 35-year-old man in Kassel-Niederzwehren reported an assault to police in the early hours of Sunday morning. Officers arrived at the scene shortly after 1:30 a.m. but soon uncovered a different explanation for his injuries. The man claimed he had been attacked, prompting police to investigate. However, officers quickly noticed inconsistencies in his account. Further checks revealed he had been riding an e-scooter while heavily intoxicated.

A blood test confirmed his alcohol level exceeded 0.2%, well above the legal limit. Investigators later determined his injuries came from a fall—not an assault—after he lost control of the scooter. Criminal proceedings for riding under the influence have now been launched against him.

The case was closed as an assault investigation but shifted to traffic offences. The man faces legal consequences for operating an e-scooter while drunk. Authorities have reminded the public of the risks of riding under the influence.
