City centre braces for two weeks of traffic chaos during Kerb festival

Major traffic changes are coming to the city centre from August 11 to 22. The annual Kerb festival will close key roads, while construction work adds further disruptions. Bus routes, parking and access to certain streets will all be affected during this period. The Kerb event area will stretch from the Landing Place, along Main Street and Faulbruch Street, to Frankfurt Street and Market Place. To prepare, the Landing Place parking lot will shut from August 11 to 22. A full road closure will then take effect from August 12 to 21, blocking Mainz Street and the event zone for setup and dismantling.

City buses leaving the city will pick up passengers at a temporary stop on Frankfurt Street, near house numbers 64/66. Buses heading into the city will instead stop opposite the city office on the same street. The usual 'Market Place' stop will remain out of service, with routes diverted via Graben Street and KƶnigstƤdter Street. Suburban buses using the 'Peace Square' stop will first serve 'Park School' during the festival. Line 72 of LNVG will also change course, with temporary stops at Weisenauer Street and Frankfurt Street. The closure will double as an opportunity to repair Ludwig Street. This means no further roadworks or bus diversions will be needed after the Kerb. While repairs take place, Ludwig Street will become one-way, and parking will be restricted to one side.

The changes will impact travel and parking for nearly two weeks. Temporary bus stops, rerouted services and restricted access will remain in place until August 22. Drivers and commuters are advised to plan ahead for delays and alternative routes.
