Driver's reckless 5km oil spill triggers multi-department emergency response

**This will likely result in a hefty fire department bill: In the end, forty firefighters spent around three hours dealing with a five-kilometer-long oil spill between Ober-Breidenbach and Nieder-Breidenbach to remove it.**

**What happened?** A driver set off from Ober-Breidenbach. In Nieder-Breidenbach, they apparently noticed something was wrong with their vehicle and turned back to the house they had left. Along the entire route, about five kilometers, their vehicle leaked oil. Upon reaching their starting point, they drove onto a field, around the property, and back onto the field, still leaking oil, which also required the local water authority to be on site, as reported by **HIT RADIO FFH**.

**Three hours to remove oil**

The operation began around 4:30 PM, according to the deputy chief fire officer of **Romrod Fire Department**, Volker Schwenzfeier. Initially, it was thought to be a local contamination in Nieder-Breidenbach, but the extent became clear quickly, leading to the deployment of fire departments from Ober-Breidenbach, Strebendorf, Zell, and Romrod. A total of 40 firefighters were involved. Chief Fire Officer Björn Müller thanked all the emergency services for their efforts upon completion. The operation was concluded around 7:30 PM.
