A 57-year-old man has died following a serious crash on the A5 motorway in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district. The accident occurred between Weiterstadt and Langen, where the driver lost control of his vehicle before colliding with a lorry's trailer.
The incident took place when the car veered off course, hitting the guardrail several times. It then struck the back of a passing truck. Emergency services arrived quickly and resuscitated the driver at the scene. Despite their efforts, he later died in hospital from his injuries.
The truck driver involved in the collision was not injured. This marks the third fatal accident on this stretch of the A5 in the past three years. In June 2024, a head-on crash claimed three lives, while a lorry accident in November 2023 resulted in one death.
The 57-year-old driver's death brings the total number of fatalities on this section of the A5 to five since 2023. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the latest crash. The road remains a high-risk area for serious accidents.
