On Thursday (September 18), the traffic prevention unit of the Southern Hesse Police Headquartersâworking alongside experts from emergency medical services, crisis intervention chaplains, and other institutions involved in serious accidentsâdelivered a powerful road safety event for 150 students in grades 12 and 13 at Gerhart Hauptmann School. The program targeted young novice drivers.
The goal of "Crash Course" is to sustainably reduce the number of serious traffic accidents involving young drivers. Tailored specifically to teenagers and young adults in upper secondary education, the live event used a presentation of images, videos, and personal accounts from accident victims and their families to vividly illustrate the dangers of road traffic and the devastating consequences of severe crashes.
During the session, representatives from the emergency response chainâincluding firefighters, paramedics, police, crisis chaplains, and funeral directorsâshared their firsthand experiences with serious accidents in an authentic and compelling way. The presentations were interspersed with real accident photos, footage, and testimonials from bereaved families. The event was moderated by Ralph Drexelius, head of traffic prevention.
The final takeaway was clear: If this event helps prevent even a single accident, it will have been worth it.
