Cologne Central Station unveils sleek new travel hub after major upgrade
Deutsche Bahn has reopened its travel centre at Cologne Central Station after a major renovation. The updated space now includes 16 service counters and a newly expanded DB Lounge. This marks the sixth location to receive a modern makeover under the company's latest design plans.
The newly refurbished travel centre spans 320 square metres, offering passengers more room and improved facilities. Alongside the service counters, the adjacent DB Lounge has also reopened, covering 448 square metres with seating for 100 people. The lounge is divided into premium and comfort zones, catering to different traveller needs.
Cologne joins five other stations that have already undergone similar upgrades: Düsseldorf, Nuremberg, Hamburg, and two sites in Berlin. Later this year, further modernisations are planned for Mannheim, Dresden, and Göttingen. Across Germany, Deutsche Bahn currently operates 13 lounges, down from previous numbers after closures in Bremen and Essen. In 2025 alone, these lounges served around 3.3 million passengers. While additional openings were previously discussed—including a planned lounge in Karlsruhe by March 2025—no new locations have been confirmed beyond the existing count.
The renovation at Cologne Central Station reflects Deutsche Bahn's ongoing efforts to upgrade key travel hubs. With more modernised lounges and service areas, passengers can expect improved comfort and efficiency. The company continues to focus on enhancing facilities at major stations nationwide.
