Investigators Probe Whether Cigarette Butt Sparked Garage Fire in Offenbach

Authorities are examining whether a discarded cigarette may have caused a garage fire on Brandenburger Straße in Offenbach. The blaze broke out Friday morning near the 50s block of the street, causing an estimated €20,000 in damages.

According to initial findings, the homeowner had placed a cigarette butt in an ashtray around 9:50 AM after smoking. She later emptied the ashtray into a garbage bin inside the garage.

Fire Spreads Through Garage

Police have not ruled out the possibility that still-smoldering ash ignited the trash, triggering the fire, which then spread throughout the garage.

Firefighters responded quickly and extinguished the blaze, preventing it from reaching adjacent buildings.

Fire Investigators Take Over Case

Specialized fire investigators have taken charge of the probe. Whether the cigarette remnant was indeed the cause remains under investigation.
