Car crashes and a brazen scam rattle Usingen and Ober-Eschbach in one day

Thursday, 28 August 2025, saw a series of incidents across the Usingen and Ober-Eschbach areas. A car crash left two vehicles written off, while a con artist targeted elderly residents in a separate scam. Police are now investigating both events. Early in the morning, around 8:00, a 66-year-old driver lost control of his Land Rover on Kreisstraße 739 near Usingen. The vehicle veered off the road and ended up in a ditch. The man suffered minor injuries, but his car was severely damaged, with repair costs estimated at 18,000 euros. Unable to drive, the Land Rover had to be towed away.

Later that afternoon, at around 15:00, a head-on collision took place on Landesstraße 3205 near Ober-Eschbach. A 36-year-old driver failed to adjust his speed on the wet road, causing the crash. Both drivers sustained light injuries, and their vehicles were so badly damaged that they too had to be towed. Earlier, at approximately 13:30, a man posing as a meter reader approached homes in Ober-Eschbach. He later claimed to have diabetes to gain entry. Inside one property, he stole jewellery, while an attempt at another home was unsuccessful. Witnesses described the suspect as around 1.75 metres tall, aged 30–40, with an athletic build and an Arabic appearance. He was last seen wearing a white shirt.

The crash on Landesstraße 3205 left two drivers with minor injuries and their cars beyond immediate repair. Meanwhile, police are searching for the con artist linked to the Ober-Eschbach thefts. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant against similar scams.
