Bremen launches €6.9M transport overhaul with 18 key projects in 2023

Bremen has approved a major renovation programme for its transport infrastructure. Eighteen traffic route projects will begin across all city districts in 2023. The total budget for these works stands at around €6.9 million. The Senate gave the green light to the programme on March 24. Funding comes from the federal government under the LuKIFG scheme. One of the first projects involves resurfacing the Osterdeich embankment between Sielwall and Tiefer/Altenwall.

Work on Osterdeich will run from April 7 to an estimated April 17. Partial lane closures will be in place, but intersections and bike paths will stay open. Detours will guide both inbound and outbound traffic during the works.

Beyond 2023, the city plans to invest an additional €15 million over the next two years. This money will renew roads, cycle lanes, and pavements across Bremen. The €6.9 million programme marks the start of wider improvements to Bremen's transport network. Further funding of €15 million will follow in the coming years. The projects aim to upgrade key routes for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
