Banned mortgage adviser faces court over illegal broking allegations

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has charged Shaun Lawrence, a former mortgage adviser, with operating illegally in the industry. The allegations claim he continued working as a mortgage broker despite being banned in 2008. He is now set to appear in court next year. Shaun Lawrence, also known as Shaun Lawrence-Bright and Shaun Bright, once held official permission to give mortgage advice. However, in 2008, the FCA revoked his authorisation and imposed a fine. The regulator also barred him from working in financial services entirely.

According to the FCA, Lawrence ignored the ban and kept providing mortgage broking services. This activity allegedly breached the Financial Services and Markets Act. His case will now proceed to Hull Magistrates’ Court on 2 July 2026.

The court hearing will determine whether Lawrence violated financial regulations by working without approval. If found guilty, he could face further penalties under the law. The FCA has not yet disclosed additional details about the case.
