Wartburgkreis leaders unite to drive economic growth and innovation in 2026

The first 2026 meeting of the IHK Economic Advisory Board for Wartburgkreis took place in Geisa's Industrial Zone. Business leaders, managing directors, and local officials gathered to discuss economic growth, investment plans, and regional development strategies.

Key figures from steel processing, energy, and manufacturing attended, alongside representatives from the Erfurt Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK).

The session was led by Hans Ulrich Nager, Deputy Chair of the Economic Advisory Board and Managing Director of Werra Energie. He guided discussions with clarity, ensuring a structured exchange of ideas. Among the participants were Thomas Müller of RSB Rationelle Stahlbearbeitung, Sven Lindig from Lindig Fördertechnik, and Hans Ulrich Nager himself, representing Werraenergie.

Manuela Henkel, Mayor of Geisa, announced plans to expand commercial zones by around 12 hectares. This move aims to boost local business opportunities and economic activity. Meanwhile, Christoph Ihling, Lord Mayor of Eisenach, shared updates on the city's development, including 86 hectares of new project land earmarked for AI, digitalisation, and data centres. Dr. Michael Brodführer, District Administrator of Wartburgkreis, outlined priorities such as workforce optimisation and reducing bureaucratic hurdles. Tino Richter, CEO of Wartburg-Sparkasse, provided insights into financial and capital market trends, stressing the importance of competitiveness and structural reforms. Carsten Geigengack, Managing Director of MES GmbH, discussed his company's transformation strategies. The advisory board also re-elected its executive committee, with Sven Lindig confirmed as Chair and Hans Ulrich Nager as Deputy Chair. The board acts as a crucial link between local businesses and the IHK, consolidating regional interests and supporting strategic initiatives.

The meeting highlighted key economic priorities for Wartburgkreis, from expanding commercial land to fostering innovation in AI and digital infrastructure. Business leaders and officials agreed on the need for structural reforms and competitive strategies to drive future growth.

The re-election of the board's leadership ensures continuity in guiding regional economic policies and business collaboration.
