Ukrainian Caritas Delegation Receives Lifeline Vehicle Amid Ongoing War

A delegation from Caritas Iwano-Frankivsk in western Ukraine recently visited Fulda to strengthen ties with the local Diocesan Caritas Association. The trip comes as Ukraine endures over four years of war, with the latest winter proving especially brutal for its people. During the visit, the Ukrainian group received a disability-accessible vehicle, further cementing the bond between the two regions.

Since Russia's invasion in 2022, Caritas Fulda has supported its Ukrainian counterpart with 12 aid vehicles. These vehicles remain in constant use, delivering essential supplies and symbolising solidarity. The latest donation—a specially adapted van from Caritas Main-Kinzig—marks the sixth such vehicle provided by Fulda's partners.

The Ukrainian delegation also toured local institutions, including the St. Elisabeth Youth Welfare Association, and attended the annual Hessen Caritas reception. Dr. Markus Juch, Director of Diocesan Caritas, described the vehicle gift as *'another visible sign of our close bond'* with Ukraine. Prälat Christof Steinert echoed this sentiment, stressing the need for continued support through both practical aid and prayer. Back in Ukraine, civilians face relentless drone attacks, yet many express gratitude for the ongoing assistance from Fulda's Diocese and Caritas. The Iwano-Frankivsk branch continues to provide critical help to those affected by the conflict, where loss, injury, and trauma remain widespread.

The visit reinforced the long-standing partnership between Fulda and Iwano-Frankivsk. With the war now in its fifth year, the donated vehicles and ongoing cooperation offer tangible relief to Ukrainians in need. Caritas officials have reaffirmed their commitment to standing by Ukraine through both material aid and moral support.
