Solingen Bank Offers Free Hryvnia-to-Euro Exchange for Ukrainian Refugees
Ukrainian refugees in Solingen can now exchange Hryvnia for Euros at Stadt-Sparkasse. The service launches today and runs until August 19. It is designed to help those fleeing the war convert their currency easily and without fees. The Bundesbank has set up a system allowing Ukrainians to exchange banknotes from the current series, with denominations between 100 and 1,000 UAH. Each person can convert up to 10,000 UAH in total. The weekly exchange rate will be determined and published by the Bundesbank itself.
Exchanges will take place at the main branch of Stadt-Sparkasse on Köln Str. 68–72. To qualify, customers must hold a current account with the bank and show a valid ID. The service is completely free of charge. To support users, the Sparkasse app is now available in Ukrainian for both Android and iOS. Informational flyers have also been printed in German, English, and Ukrainian. However, no public data exists on how many refugees have used the service so far.
The exchange programme will remain open until August 19. Ukrainians in Solingen can access the service at the designated branch or manage their accounts via the updated app. The initiative aims to provide practical financial support during a difficult time.
