Police probe hit-and-run, burglary and illegal racing in crime wave

A series of incidents has kept police busy in the region over the past week. A hit-and-run crash, an attempted burglary, and illegal street racing are among the cases under investigation. Authorities are now appealing for witnesses to come forward with any relevant information.

The first incident took place on Friday, August 22, 2025, at around 23:45. A grey VW Golf crashed into the Sechsheldener roundabout before fleeing the scene. The collision caused approximately 2,000 euros in damage. Police are asking anyone who saw the vehicle before or after the accident—or noticed unusual behaviour from the driver or passenger—to contact them.

Just three hours later, at around 03:00 on August 23, three men aged 19 to 24 were caught racing illegally in Wetzlar. Their speeds reached up to 200 km/h. Officers confiscated their driving licences and vehicles, and the men now face charges of prohibited motor racing. On the same day, a motorcyclist was stopped for speeding on the B255 between Aartalsee and Zollbuche. The rider was travelling more than 60 km/h over the limit. Two days after the street race, on August 25 at 02:55, an attempted burglary occurred at a jeweller’s shop on Herborn’s main street. The intruder, described as medium height with short, light hair—or possibly wearing a light cap—fled via Conradis corner towards Turmstraße. Witnesses who saw the suspect during the escape are urged to contact police. Earlier in the month, between August 15 and 22, thieves broke into the sports club at Waldsolms’ *Alten Sportplatz*. They caused 1,000 euros in damage and stole a JBL sound system worth 300 euros.

Investigations into all incidents are ongoing. Police have requested public assistance, particularly regarding the hit-and-run and the burglary attempt. Anyone with information is encouraged to step forward to aid the enquiries.
