Berlin police arrest armed suspect after apartment shooting and chase
A 53-year-old man allegedly threatened a woman with a firearm in her Berlinstraße apartment on Sunday, August 24. The incident was reported to police at around 5:30 p.m., sparking a search for the suspect who fled the scene by car. The confrontation began inside the woman’s flat, where an argument escalated. A shot was fired toward the ceiling before the suspect left the premises. Witnesses confirmed he drove away in an unknown direction.
Police launched a manhunt and later apprehended the man near a wooded area close to Berta-Benz-Straße. During the arrest, he sustained self-inflicted injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. Officers also conducted a breath alcohol test, which showed a blood alcohol concentration of 2.58 per mille. Investigators believe the suspect discarded the weapon while fleeing. Despite an extensive search, the firearm has not yet been recovered. The criminal police have since taken over the case for further investigation.
The suspect remains in custody, though his injuries required medical attention. Authorities continue to search for the missing weapon as part of the ongoing inquiry. The woman involved in the incident is cooperating with police.
