New series revisits German reunification's untold human stories 35 years later

The Hessian Broadcasting Corporation (hr) and the Thuringian Broadcasting Corporation of the Middle German Broadcasting (MDR) have produced a series of contributions to mark the anniversary on October 3rd, celebrating 35 years of reunification. Together, they explored the question: 'Hesse and Thuringia - united without borders?' They investigated border stories that affect aspects of life such as the economy, tourism, education, or even the fire department. MDR and hr will report on these topics online, on TV, radio, and social media throughout the anniversary week. Despite the focus on the differences between East and West, is this still relevant today? How is daily life in the border region between Hesse and Thuringia? Where are there communities, shared projects? What are the feelings and concerns of the people? Is there still a 'them and us', or has it become a 'we'? How has reunification affected people, the economy, and tourism? Teams from Hessian Broadcasting and Thuringian Broadcasting will explore the former border region together, both in the east and the west. Isabell Kramer from hr and Christian Müller from MDR will uncover stories together, meeting people and projects that have been significantly shaped by division and reunification. Through this cross-media series, they will explore how important it is for people to reflect on their own lives. What has division and reunification done to people? How have their life paths changed? **September 29th:** Biographies (**A love story between Bad Hersfeld and Vacha**) **September 30th:** Tourism (**From Berka to the paddling paradise of the Werra: hosts, culture, projects**) **October 1st:** Town twinning Wanfried-Treffurt (**Cooperation not just in the fire department**) **October 2nd:** Economy (**Example: Kali production**) **October 3rd:** Children and reunification (**'School of German Unity' in Gerstungen**) Contributions and live broadcasts will be featured in the Hessian News and MDR THÜRINGEN JOURNAL, on hr1 and MDR THÜRINGEN - Das Radio, and online and on the social media channels of hr and MDR THÜRINGEN.
