Meerbusch's New Housing Cooperative Plans Affordable Row Homes by 2026
A new housing cooperative is taking shape in Meerbusch with the goal of providing affordable homes. MeerWohnen eG, founded in late April 2023, plans to build twelve subsidised row houses on Kierster Straße in Meerbusch-Lank. The project marks the cooperative’s first step in addressing local housing needs. The initiative began with support from the Rhein-Kreis Neuss coordination agency for affordable housing. From the start, the agency backed the Meerbusch-Lank development, helping to lay the groundwork for the cooperative’s work.
Fairhome, a company specialising in low-cost housing, has also played a key role. Through its subsidiary Fairhome GmbH, it became a founding member of MeerWohnen eG, offering expertise in financing and project implementation. The city of Meerbusch is contributing land and urban planning knowledge, while Fairhome will handle development and funding.
MeerWohnen eG now aims to formalise its status. By summer 2026, the cooperative expects to complete a review of its financial and operational plans by the cooperative audit association. Once approved, it will officially register as a cooperative. The twelve row houses on Kierster Straße will be the first of MeerWohnen eG’s projects. With land, planning support, and financing in place, the cooperative moves closer to delivering secure, affordable housing in Meerbusch. Registration as a cooperative remains the next major step.
