High-speed chase follows failed drug test in Weiterstadt traffic stop
A 22-year-old woman now faces criminal charges after a late-night traffic stop escalated into a dramatic chase. Police in Weiterstadt initially pulled her over on suspicion of drug use, but the situation quickly turned chaotic when she fled the scene.
The incident began just after midnight on February 3, 2023, along Grafenhäuser Straße. Officers from the 3rd Police Precinct stopped a gray Mercedes driven by the woman. A preliminary drug test came back positive for THC, prompting further action.
Before officers could proceed, the woman suddenly drove off toward the A5 autobahn. In her attempt to escape, she struck a 37-year-old police officer. The injured officer later received precautionary medical treatment but returned to duty shortly after. Authorities later apprehended the woman at her home and took her into provisional custody. She was transported to a police station, where the Darmstadt Public Prosecutor's Office ordered a blood test. After processing, she was released and allowed to return home.
The woman now faces multiple criminal investigations related to the incident. The case follows broader concerns about drug-impaired driving, though specific data for Hesse in 2024 remains unavailable. Police have not released further details on potential charges at this time.
