Hesse police warn of rising burglaries and car thefts in Butzbach and Büdingen
Police in Hesse have recorded a rise in break-ins over the past year. Between March 2025 and March 2026, around 150 residential burglaries and 220 vehicle thefts were reported in the districts of Butzbach and Büdingen. Two recent incidents in Griedel and Wolf have prompted renewed warnings from authorities. Early on Wednesday morning, March 25, 2026, two burglars forced their way into an empty single-family home on Joststraße in Griedel. The break-in occurred around 5:00 AM, with the thieves making off with a grinding machine set. Police are now appealing for witnesses and asking anyone with information to contact Butzbach police station.
In a separate incident, a black Mercedes A200d parked on Brückenacker in Wolf was targeted between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. The vehicle was left unlocked sometime after 9:30 PM on March 24, 2026, and before 10:00 AM the next day. The thief searched the interior and stole loose change from the centre console. Authorities in Büdingen are urging anyone who saw suspicious activity near the car to come forward. To reduce the risk of theft, police advise drivers to always double-check that their vehicles are locked. They also warn against leaving valuables inside, even small amounts of change, as these can attract opportunistic thieves.
The latest incidents add to a growing number of thefts in the region. Residents are being reminded to secure their homes and vehicles properly. Anyone with details about the Griedel burglary or the Wolf car break-in is encouraged to contact local police immediately.
