Fürth's bold 2040 heat transition plan to slash emissions and costs

Fürth will unveil its municipal heat transition plan on Thursday, June 18, 2026. The strategy aims to create a climate-neutral, secure, and affordable heat supply for the city by 2040. Residents are invited to learn how district heating, heat pumps, and other renewable solutions could transform their neighbourhoods. The public event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kofferfabrik, with no entry fee. Attendees can explore the upcoming Building Modernization Act, renovation options for homes, and available energy advisory services. The city is also offering around 250 free on-site consultations this year for owners of single- and two-family houses.

Key focus areas for the plan include the southern district (*Südstadt*), the city centre, and the Fronmüllerstraße area. A main heat transport line through these zones is already in the planning stages, with approvals underway and completion expected by mid-2027. A preliminary timeline for expanding the network in *Südstadt* should be ready by the end of 2026. Beyond the event, residents can still access in-person advice at Floßaustraße 22a every other Tuesday. The city’s long-term goal is to guide households toward sustainable heating choices while keeping costs manageable.

The heat transition plan sets out a clear path for Fürth’s future energy needs. With public consultations, free advice, and infrastructure projects in progress, the city is working to ensure a reliable and eco-friendly heat supply. The next steps include finalising the transport line and expanding network coverage in targeted districts.
