Elderly Woman Tricked by Scammers Posing as Doll Buyers in Fulda

A 77-year-old woman in Fulda lost her gold jewellery to scammers posing as buyers. The incident happened on February 2, 2023, after the pair responded to a newspaper advert about dolls. Police are now searching for two suspects—an adult man and a young boy—linked to the theft.

In a separate case, a Madonna statue was stolen from a gravesite in Treischfeld cemetery between January 12 and February 1, 2023.

The scammers contacted the elderly woman after seeing her advertisement. They visited her home under the pretence of buying dolls but quickly shifted focus. One suspect asked to inspect her gold jewellery, then distracted her while stealing the entire jewellery box.

The two suspects are described as a man in his 40s, between 5'7

The Fulda victim's jewellery remains missing, and the stolen statue has not been recovered. Police continue to investigate both incidents but have not yet confirmed whether the cases are connected. No national statistics on similar frauds involving matching suspect descriptions are publicly available.
