Drunk driver crashes and flees as police hunt fire witness in separate incidents
Two separate incidents have kept police busy in recent days. On Friday evening, a drunk driver caused a hit-and-run crash on the B453 near Eckelshausen. Just days later, a field fire broke out in Münchhausen, with investigators now searching for a young witness seen fleeing the scene. The first incident happened on 22 August around evening time. A 30-year-old motorist crashed into warning markers and a guardrail along the B453, causing roughly €3,000 in damage. Instead of stopping, he drove off, prompting a police search.
Officers later apprehended the man and discovered his blood alcohol level was nearly 2.3 per mille. He also tested positive for drugs. During the arrest, he became aggressive, leaving two officers with minor injuries. His licence was immediately confiscated, and he spent the night in custody. He now faces charges of hit-and-run, drunk driving, and resisting arrest. Three days later, on Monday evening, a field fire erupted near the 'Alte B252' road in Münchhausen. The blaze affected a 50-square-metre plot between Münchhausen and Ernsthausen, east of Marburger Straße. Firefighters contained the damage, but investigators are now looking for a girl seen near the scene. Witnesses reported seeing a 12- to 13-year-old with shoulder-length blonde hair leaving the area on an e-scooter. Police have asked anyone with information about the girl or suspicious activity in the area that evening to come forward.
The driver from Friday’s crash remains in custody while prosecutors prepare formal charges. Meanwhile, the Münchhausen fire investigation continues, with authorities urging the public to share any relevant details. Both cases highlight ongoing police efforts to address dangerous behaviour on local roads and in rural areas.
