Drunk Bus Driver Taken Off the Road in Hanau with 2.41 Permille

A drunk bus driver was pulled over by police in Hanau on Friday evening after recording a blood alcohol level of 2.41 per mille, authorities said. The 57-year-old had his license confiscated, and criminal proceedings have been initiated.

The operation began after a passenger reported the driver, telling police they had noticed the smell of alcohol. Officers intercepted the bus a short time later at the main train station.

Shift Ended at the Main Station

There, the man's journey came to an abrupt halt—not only was his trip over, but police also seized his driver's license. He was then taken to the station, where a blood sample was taken.

He now faces investigation on suspicion of driving under the influence. For professional drivers, losing their license has immediate consequences, as they are unable to continue working until it is reinstated.

Possible Employment Consequences

In addition to criminal charges, the man may also face disciplinary action from his employer, police said.

The incident came to light only because a passenger noticed the smell of alcohol and alerted authorities. Without that tip, the driver would have remained on duty.
