Crime wave hits Mittelhessen with thefts, vandalism, and a serious crash

A series of crimes and incidents unfolded across Mittelhessen over the past few days. Thefts, vandalism, and a serious traffic collision kept local authorities busy. Police are now investigating multiple cases, from slashed tyres to a stolen trailer.

The incidents began on Sunday, January 4, 2026, when fuel thieves were spotted in Bad Vilbel's Carl-Benz-Allee at 11:05 PM. They escaped in three vehicles, including a silver VW Golf, heading toward Nieder-Erlenbach along L 3008.

Later that night, between 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM the following morning, someone slashed three tyres on a gray BMW 318Ci in Höchst a. d. Nidder. The car's owner discovered the damage early on Monday. On the same day, at around 12:50 PM, thieves took a red Schmitz Cargobull semi-trailer in Rosbach. The stolen vehicle bore the license plate OHA-MX 167 and displayed a CR-Cargo logo. Meanwhile, in Gambach, designer chairs vanished from a former beverage warehouse on Butzbacher Straße. The theft happened sometime in the past three weeks. A break-in was also attempted at Solgrabenschule in Bad Nauheim. The incident occurred between December 19, 2025, and January 5, 2026, though no further details have been released. The most serious event took place on Monday afternoon. At around 2:40 PM, a 60-year-old Mercedes driver caused a head-on collision on B 3 near Karben. The BMW driver involved suffered minor injuries, and the crash resulted in an estimated €14,000 in damages. Investigators are still determining why the Mercedes entered the wrong lane.

Police are reviewing evidence from each case, including the stolen trailer and the collision. The wrong-way crash remains under investigation, while the other incidents highlight a spike in thefts and vandalism. Authorities have not yet linked the crimes to a single group or motive.
