Crime wave hits Main-Kinzig district with thefts, scams and vandalism

From stolen handbags to cemetery thefts, a string of brazen crimes shakes the region. Authorities warn residents to stay alert as investigations unfold.

Crime wave hits Main-Kinzig district with thefts, scams and vandalism

A series of crimes and traffic violations were reported across the Main-Kinzig district this week. Police carried out checks near a primary school in Langendiebach, while thefts, scams, and vandalism affected several towns. Authorities are investigating multiple incidents, including burglaries, fraud, and stolen property.

On Monday, officers from Maintal police station monitored traffic along Fechenheimer Weg and near a primary school in Langendiebach. Between 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM, they checked 65 vehicles and 69 individuals. Five drivers received penalty points for speeding. Police Chief Inspectors Julia Koch and Silke Rübmann also identified two electric scooters without valid insurance stickers, one of which was ridden by a child under 14.

In Bad Orb, a handbag containing a wallet and phone was stolen from a black Volkswagen Tiguan between 4:35 PM and 5:14 PM on Monday. The theft caused nearly €1,000 in property damage. Meanwhile, in Freigericht, a 63-year-old woman's apartment on Friedhofstraße was burglarized while she slept. Intruders forced open her front door between 8:15 PM on Monday and 8:00 AM on Tuesday, ransacking cabinets for valuables. A woman from Brachttal fell victim to a scam after handing over her bank card and PIN to a man posing as a bank employee. The fraudster withdrew several thousand euros and attempted to buy two phones. In Bad Soden-Salmünster, an elderly man lost €2,000 to a fraudster claiming to be from a mail-order company. The scammer demanded and withdrew cash from the victim's account. At a construction site in Langenselbold, two vibrating plates worth around €15,000 were stolen between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM on Saturday. In Höchst, bronze grave ornaments valued at €1,000 were taken from a cemetery between March 16 and March 23. Additionally, election posters across Linsengericht were vandalized with black paint or marker between Sunday at 11:00 PM and Monday at 6:15 AM.

Authorities continue to investigate the incidents, which include thefts, fraud, and traffic violations. The stolen items range from construction equipment to personal belongings, with scams targeting vulnerable individuals. Police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
