Copper theft at Alsfeld transformer station leaves homes in the dark
A break-in at a transformer station in Alsfeld left homes without power early on Thursday morning. Unknown individuals forced their way into the site, causing damage and stealing copper cabling. The incident disrupted electricity for over an hour. At around 12:45 a.m. on August 4, an employee from the local energy provider reported a power outage on HochstraĂe. The culprits had broken into the transformer station on the former premises of a company. They cut off the electricity supply and removed a large amount of copper wiring.
The stolen materials are estimated to be worth a low five-figure sum. The break-in also resulted in roughly âŹ2,000 of property damage. Power was eventually restored to affected homes by about 1:45 a.m. Alsfeld Police Station is asking anyone with information about suspicious vehicles or individuals to come forward.
