Brandenburg Honors Innovators in Teaching and Research with 2026 Science Prizes

Brandenburg’s Science Minister Manja Schüle has presented the 2026 Brandenburg Science Prizes. The awards recognise outstanding teaching and research across the region. Winners included scholars from Potsdam, Frankfurt (Oder), and Eberswalde.

Four teaching awards of €10,000 each were handed out. The University of Potsdam won one for a course exploring economic issues through children’s literature. Jaya Bharti, a researcher at Potsdam, also received a postdoctoral award for her work on sustainable hydrogen peroxide production.

Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development secured three teaching prizes. Their winning projects focused on innovative agroforestry and sustainable development education. Jana Weiß, a literary scholar at European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), earned a postdoctoral award. Her research examines class identity and social divides in literature. Each postdoctoral winner received €20,000. Schüle described the recipients as 'educators who think beyond their own disciplines'. The awards highlight contributions to both teaching and scientific advancement in Brandenburg.

The prizes celebrate achievements in education and research. Teaching awards supported creative approaches in economics, sustainability, and agriculture. Postdoctoral researchers received funding to advance their specialised studies.
