Schomacker upgrades yacht insurance with lower deductibles and expanded coverage

Schomacker, a Hamburg-based yacht insurer, has rolled out a series of upgrades for the upcoming boating season. The changes include better skipper liability insurance, improved trip cancellation coverage, and lower deductibles for key services.

The company has removed the €150 deductible for property damage claims under its skipper liability policy. For charter-related damages that leave a boat unusable for future renters, the deductible has also been scrapped. These improvements come without any rise in premiums.

For towing assistance, the deductible has been cut from €2,500 to €1,300. Trip cancellation insurance now covers more scenarios, including medical issues like the loosening or failure of prosthetics or implants. Customers can also add a partner or another key person to the list of valid cancellation reasons. Additionally, pet owners can now include dogs or horses in their trip cancellation policy. This extension costs an extra one percent of the insured potential loss amount.

The updates aim to provide broader protection for yacht owners and charter customers. Schomacker's adjustments take effect for the current boating season, though the insurer has not released recent figures on its customer base.
