Lörrach raises library fees for the first time since 2017

The city of Lörrach is updating its library fees and rules for the first time since 2017. Rising costs and expanded services have prompted the changes, which will affect membership prices and borrowing policies. Children and teenagers, however, will continue to enjoy free access.

Under the new structure, adult annual membership will rise from €20 to €25. Discounted rates for eligible users will increase from €10 to €13. Partner and family passes will also go up, moving from €35 to €45. Adjustments will apply to individual borrowing fees as well.

The city expects these changes to bring in an extra €28,000 each year. Alongside the fee revisions, the library's usage regulations are being modernised. Updates include clearer loan periods, refreshed wording, and a new rule allowing borrowers to extend loan terms twice. The city council will vote on the proposals on March 26, 2026. If approved, the new fees and policies will take effect from April 15, 2026.

The fee adjustments mark the first update in nearly a decade. Free access for young users will stay in place, while adults and families face higher costs. The changes aim to support the library's growing services while addressing financial pressures.
