The image shows a group of police cars parked on the side of a street, with a person standing on the right side of the road. In the background, there are buildings, poles, traffic signals, and a bridge, suggesting that the scene is taking place in a city. This image is likely related to the Boston Marathon bombing, as it could be a reminder of the tragedy that occurred in the area.

Kassel boosts city centre security with new police surveillance camera

Security in Kassel’s city centre has been stepped up with new police measures. Hesse’s Interior Minister, Prof. Dr. Roman Poseck, announced intensified law enforcement efforts this week. A new video camera at Lutherplatz is now monitoring an area known for drug-related and property crime. The camera was installed last week along the path between Spohrstraße and Mauerstraße. Positioned at an elevated spot, it began live monitoring on Thursday, with feeds directed to the Nordhessen Police Headquarters.

Police President Marco Bärtl highlighted the close cooperation between the police and Kassel’s city authorities. The initiative forms part of a broader safety strategy, as City Councilor Heiko Lehmkuhl explained. The surveillance zone has also been temporarily expanded to improve coverage. The new system aims to help officers detect threats early, prevent incidents, and gather evidence for investigations.

The camera at Lutherplatz is now fully operational. Authorities expect it to enhance crime prevention and support ongoing police work. The move follows a joint push by local government and law enforcement to improve public safety in Kassel.
