Idstein to Host 2027 Hessentag with €11.5 Million in Funding Secured
Idstein has been officially chosen to host the 2027 Hessentag, marking the 25th anniversary of the city's first festival in 2002. The event, which drew around 450,000 visitors back then, will return with a mix of tradition and modern planning. Funding of up to €11.5 million has now been secured to support the preparations.
The Hessian State Chancellery confirmed Idstein as the host city, unlocking financial backing for the 2027 festival. The total funding package includes €7.5 million for infrastructure investments, €3.5 million to cover any potential shortfall, and an extra €500,000 'sprint bonus' due to the tight preparation schedule. The state's contribution has also risen by roughly €1.5 million to help offset increasing costs across all areas.
Mayor Christian Herfurth welcomed the decision, acknowledging the challenge of organising the event within a condensed timeframe. He emphasised the city's determination to deliver a memorable festival. Sabine Fritz, Idstein's Hessentag coordinator, confirmed that the official designation now kicks off the planning phase. The 2027 Hessentag will follow the successful 'short-distance' concept from 2002, ensuring most attractions remain within easy reach. Benedikt Kuhn, Head of the Hessian State Chancellery, praised Idstein's blend of historic charm and forward-thinking approach. He described his excitement for a vibrant and joyful celebration in five years' time.
With funding secured and preparations underway, Idstein is set to welcome visitors for the 2027 Hessentag. The festival will build on the city's past success while adapting to modern demands. Organisers now face the task of delivering an event that balances tradition with innovation within a limited timeframe.
