Salzgitter: Groundbreaking for Future-Oriented Fuel and Charging Hub
Germany's futuristic fuel and charging hub breaks ground in Salzgitter
A groundbreaking ceremony was held today in Salzgitter-Watenstedt for a project designed to bridge the challenges of present and future automotive mobility. On a site owned by Salzgitter AG, ORLEN Deutschland GmbH is constructing a modern, strategically located fuel station that will cater to both passenger and commercial vehicles while embracing forward-looking energy and charging infrastructure, according to a press release from Salzgitter AG.
The ceremonial first dig was attended by Salzgitter's Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel, Gerd Baresch (Technical Managing Director of Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH), Christian Heinrich (Authorized Officer of Salzgitter AG and Managing Director of GlĂźckauf Immobilien GmbH), and Dennis Kulbach (Chief Operating Officer of ORLEN Deutschland GmbH). The facility is scheduled for completion and opening in December 2026.
24/7 Fueling and Services
The new station will operate under the star brand, occupying roughly 12,000 square meters. It will feature a modern convenience store with an expanded food service area and an outdoor seating section. For fueling, six pumps will be available for passenger vehiclesâincluding HV100, a non-fossil diesel alternativeâwith 24/7 access enabled by an automated payment terminal (CRID).
Additionally, two high-capacity pumps for trucks, known as "fast-lane" dispensers, will also operate around the clock. The station will further offer truck parking, a car wash with two self-service bays, and customer showers. A photovoltaic system will partially power the site with self-generated, sustainable electricity.
Ultra-Fast Charging Infrastructure
Electric mobility is a core component of the new development. EV drivers will have access to an ORLEN CHARGE hub with eight charging stations, four of which are hyperchargers capable of delivering up to 400 kW for ultra-rapid charging. The charging infrastructure is being developed in partnership with WEVG Salzgitter GmbH & Co. KG and Avacon AG.
Salzgitter AG, through its subsidiary GlĂźckauf Immobilien GmbH, managed the zoning and land-use planning process. The goal is to create innovative, future-proof supply strategies for Salzgitter, building a portfolio of services on company-owned land for employees, businesses (such as logistics firms) in the Salzgitter-Watenstedt industrial area, and all residents and visitors to the city.
