Frankfurt man arrested after brutal taxi driver assault over fare dispute
Police are investigating a 33-year-old man from Frankfurt am Main following a violent altercation with a taxi driver in Rodgau. The suspect was provisionally arrested early Thursday morning during a manhunt. He is under investigation on suspicion of, among other charges, grievous bodily harm.
According to initial findings, the man approached an uninvolved bystander around 2:15 a.m., asking them to call a taxi to take him to Weiskirchen station. He reportedly claimed his phone battery had died. Shortly afterward, he entered the taxi that had been called for him.
Fare Dispute Turns Violent
A dispute over the fare for a trip to Frankfurt am Main allegedly escalated during the ride. Police report that the argument began verbally before the 33-year-old repeatedly punched the driver in the face.
He is also said to have attempted to snatch the driver's phone, though investigators believe he was unsuccessful.
Driver Hospitalized
The taxi driver received initial medical treatment at the scene before being taken to a hospital for further care. The attacker initially fled but was located and provisionally arrested a short time later by a police patrol.
Authorities have classified the assault as grievous bodily harm due to evidence suggesting the suspect was wearing gloves with protective reinforcements during the attack.
