Offenbach Mayor Felix Schwenke presented Frank Hodel with the city's prestigious City Hall Medal during the annual general assembly of the Offenbach City Fire Brigade Association, recognizing his decades of dedicated volunteer work with the fire service and beyond.

Hodel has been a member of the Offenbach-Rumpenheim Volunteer Fire Department since 1995, first joining the youth fire brigade in 1990. From 2019 to 2026, he served as deputy city fire inspector, playing a key role in coordinating operations, ensuring readiness, and advancing the development of Offenbach's volunteer fire departments.

A Lifetime of Service to Firefighting and Community

In his remarks, Schwenke underscored the vital role of volunteers in the fire service. "Being a firefighter means far more than just responding to emergencies. It's about reliability, responsibility, expertise, and camaraderie. People like Frank Hodel, through their years of commitment, make our city safer and stronger—embodying the spirit of community that defines us."

According to city officials, Hodel spent years as a radio communications instructor, designing training exercises—including joint drills for Offenbach's three volunteer fire departments—and remained deeply involved in daily operations. He earned the title of "Einsatzkönig" (most active responder) multiple times, logging the highest number of callouts in a single year. His service extended beyond local borders, including deployments such as the Elbe River floods.

Leadership Transition at the Assembly

With Hodel relocating from Offenbach for personal reasons, his tenure as deputy city fire inspector has come to an end. During the assembly, Markus Hänel of the Offenbach-Rumpenheim Volunteer Fire Department was elected as his successor.

Beyond firefighting, Hodel contributed to the community in other volunteer roles, serving as a lector in the Catholic Church and assisting as an election worker for the city of Offenbach.

Schwenke praised the honoree, stating: "For years, Frank Hodel has demonstrated unwavering reliability, exceptional professionalism, and remarkable humility in his service to others. His long-standing and meritorious volunteer work deserves our deepest gratitude and recognition."
