Erfurt (our platform)

A 36-year-old man in Erfurt fell victim to suspected online fraud over the weekend. The victim attempted to download a game from a website, but when the process took unusually long, he canceled it. Roughly an hour later, unauthorized withdrawals and purchases began appearing across his online accounts. By the time the incident unfolded, the total damage exceeded €180.

Police are warning against untrusted websites, which often pose significant security risks. Many harbor malware, spyware, or other malicious software disguised as free downloads—such as games—only to infect users' devices. Once installed, these programs can steal personal data, compromise passwords, or cause further financial harm.

Authorities advise downloading software exclusively from official, reputable platforms to avoid such risks.
