Elderly Woman Robbed of Gold Rings by Fake Telecom Workers in Offenbach
An elderly woman in Offenbach-Bieber was robbed on Saturday afternoon by two people posing as telecommunications workers. The suspects tricked their way into her apartment on Im Frankfurter Grund street before stealing three gold rings. Police are now searching for witnesses to help identify the pair.
The incident began when the two suspects knocked on the woman's door. They claimed to be employees of a telecommunications company, there to inspect lines for a planned fibre-optic installation. Both presented forged ID badges to gain her trust.
Once inside, they took three gold rings from the apartment before leaving. The woman, aged in her 70s, later reported the theft to Offenbach Criminal Police (Kripo).
Authorities describe the suspects as a man and a woman, both around 25 years old. The man has short dark hair and wore a grey sweatshirt with magenta lettering. The woman has long brown hair reaching her hips and was dressed in a way that matched the fake role. Offenbach has seen a surge in fibre-optic expansion over the past five years, with major providers like Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone leading upgrades. However, legitimate inspections are rarely unannounced, and residents are advised to verify credentials before allowing entry.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Kripo Offenbach at 069 8098-1234.
The robbery follows a pattern of deception targeting vulnerable residents. Police have warned locals to be cautious of unexpected visitors claiming to represent utility companies. The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to track down the suspects.
