A 27-year-old van driver struck a pedestrian on a sidewalk in Rhoden on Thursday evening. The incident happened on Walme Street at around 9:10 p.m., leaving the 32-year-old victim with minor injuries. Police later arrested the driver, who had fled the scene and was under the influence of alcohol. The collision took place when the van, driven by the 27-year-old, mounted the pavement and hit the pedestrian. Instead of stopping, the driver left the area immediately. Officers tracked him down shortly afterwards in Rhoden.

Upon arrest, the suspect resisted and made threats against the police. He was taken into custody but released the following morning after sobering up. Authorities confirmed he is now under investigation for multiple offences, including hit-and-run, endangering road traffic, assaulting officers, and making threats.

The North Hesse Police Headquarters and Waldeck-Frankenberg Police Directorate are leading the ongoing investigation. The pedestrian suffered only minor injuries in the crash. The driver, now released from custody, faces several charges related to the incident. Police have not yet announced further details on potential penalties or court proceedings.
