AWO Wiesbaden takes over family counselling amid rising demand for support
AWO Wiesbaden has taken over the family counselling centre in Schelmengraben from Diakonie. The change, effective since May 2023, comes as the city faces rising demand for support services. Officials aim to ensure families experience minimal disruption during the transition. The move follows a decision by the city of Wiesbaden to partner with AWO after identifying a growing need for counselling. Families in the area will continue receiving help with conflicts, separations, school difficulties, and behavioural issues. A long-serving counsellor at the centre stressed the importance of keeping trust and stability for those relying on the service.
A second location in Westend will open soon to make counselling more accessible. The expansion aims to reduce barriers for families seeking support. AWO also plans to broaden its programme, focusing on early prevention, quicker interventions, and stronger ties with schools. Bastian Hans, managing director of AWO, intends to build on the centre’s existing strengths while introducing new improvements. Patricia Becher, the city’s councilor for social affairs, highlighted the need for a dependable, long-term solution. The counselling service remains committed to offering reliable, ongoing support to families in need.
The transition to AWO management seeks to maintain continuity for scheduled appointments and services. With an expanded programme and a new location, the centre will provide broader access to counselling. Families in Wiesbaden can continue receiving help without interruption.
