Youth Pornography Cases Surge to Record High in 2024
The number of cases involving youth pornographic material surged to a record high of 9,601 in 2024. Federal Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt expressed shock at the persistently high levels of sexual abuse against children and young people, with 16,354 cases involving children and 1,191 involving youth aged 14 to 17.
Holger MΓΌnch, President of the Federal Criminal Police Office, emphasized the ongoing focus on combating sexual violence against minors. In 2024, 18,085 victims and 12,368 suspects were registered in these cases. The BKA received hundreds of daily tips from the US-based National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding online abuse.
The peak in youth pornography cases coincides with a warning from Kerstin Claus, Independent Federal Commissioner, about the increased risk of sexual violence in the digital world. Despite the constant number of registered cases in 2024 after years of increase, the figures remain alarmingly high, above the five-year average.
The record high of youth pornography cases and persistent sexual abuse against children and youth in 2024 underscore the urgent need for continued vigilance and action. Authorities must remain steadfast in their efforts to protect minors from these heinous crimes.
