Youth Exchange Create, Connect, Click! Unites Young People Across Borders for Media Literacy

An international youth exchange named Create, Connect, Click! united young people from Germany, Slovenia, and Portugal in Wiesbaden. Organized by Caritas Jugendhilfe Wiesbaden and partners from Slovenia and Portugal, the event focused on media literacy, digital responsibility, and cross-border collaboration. On January 30, 2023, Dr. Patricia Becher, Wiesbaden's Social Affairs Commissioner, officially welcomed the participants to the city.

The exchange involved young people from residential youth care settings, offering them the chance to work alongside peers from diverse backgrounds. Through personal interactions and group activities, they explored topics such as media consumption, opinion formation, and the spread of disinformation. Trust-building and open discussions were central to the experience.

Participants formed international teams to create media projects like short videos, podcasts, and interviews addressing socially relevant issues. The aim was to deepen their understanding of how media influences public opinion and European democracy.

At the closing ceremony in Wiesbaden City Hall, the young people presented their collaborative work. Each participant received an EU Youthpass, certifying their involvement and the skills they gained during the program.

The Create, Connect, Click! exchange sought to empower young people by enhancing their media literacy and fostering connections across borders. Through hands-on projects and shared learning, the participants developed practical skills while engaging with the role of media in society. The initiative also emphasized the importance of inclusive programs for youth in care settings.
