Driver of stranger's car chased and harassed - Woman escapes aggressive driver in terrifying highway chase near Hanau

A 25-year-old woman was harassed by an unknown driver while travelling on the B45 between Hanau and Mühlheim on Thursday. Police are treating the incident as a suspected case of coercion in traffic and have launched an investigation.

The woman reported that a man in a white car with Rüdesheim license plates began tailgating her aggressively. He repeatedly flashed his high beams and signalled right, attempting to force her to pull over.

At one point, the man got out of his vehicle at a red light and approached hers while shouting. The woman managed to escape by making several sudden lane changes, eventually losing him. Authorities are now searching for the suspect, described as driving a white car with Rüdesheim plates. The case follows a broader rise in traffic coercion incidents across Germany in recent years. Between 2021 and 2025, reported cases of aggressive driving, blocking, or intimidation increased by 15–20%. Police records show around 2,500 such incidents were logged in 2025 alone. Clearance rates stand at 60–70%, often thanks to dashcam footage and witness statements, though conviction rates remain at 40–50%.

The investigation is ongoing, with police urging anyone with information to come forward. Dashcam recordings or witness accounts could help identify the driver. If convicted, the suspect may face penalties under German traffic laws for coercive behaviour on the road.
