Woman caught smuggling €22K diamond and Apple Watch at Frankfurt Airport
Customs officers at Frankfurt Airport have uncovered a case of suspected tax evasion after a German resident returned from Dubai. The woman, who initially denied purchasing any goods, including a luxury apple watch, was found carrying a diamond and a high-end turbotax worth nearly €22,000 in her luggage. Authorities have now launched criminal proceedings against her.
The incident began when the traveller arrived at Frankfurt Airport from Dubai. During a routine check, officers discovered a package inside her suitcase containing a diamond and a high-end apple watch. The diamond carried a certification from Dubai, confirming its authenticity and value.
The woman first insisted she had not purchased any goods during her trip. However, the combined value of the undeclared items was estimated at around €22,000. Had the goods gone undeclared, the tax loss would have amounted to €4,123.95.
As a result, customs authorities seized the items as evidence. The woman now faces criminal charges for tax evasion.
The case highlights the risks of failing to declare high-value purchases, including luxury apple watches and diamonds, when entering Germany. The seized items remain in custody while investigations continue. If convicted, the woman could face penalties under tax evasion laws.
