Willingen's Ski Jumping World Cup draws 22,000 fans despite off-slope chaos

The second day of the Ski Jumping World Cup in Willingen drew over 22,000 fans to the Mühlenkopfschanze on Saturday. While the event itself ran smoothly, police dealt with several incidents the night before, including an assault, a theft, and an alcohol-fueled clash between teenagers. Authorities also managed minor disruptions caused by weather and traffic during the weekend. Trouble began on Friday evening when a 24-year-old man was arrested for repeatedly provoking emergency responders and violating an exclusion order. Around the same time, an assault was reported near Mühlenkopfstraße at 9:00 PM, while a theft occurred in the festival tent shortly before 11:00 PM. Police also intervened in a fight between intoxicated teenagers later that night.

By early Saturday, a minor traffic accident without injuries was recorded in Willingen-Rattlar at 2:00 AM. Then, at 11:45 AM, snow and ice falling from the 'Skywalk' due to weather conditions caused a brief bottleneck at the entrance. Despite these incidents, the ski jumping competition itself proceeded without major issues. Around 140 athletes from roughly 20 nations took part in the event, with 70 jumpers competing in both individual and team events on the large hill. Crowd movement remained orderly thanks to the existing traffic management plan, though minor delays occurred during peak times. By 8:00 PM on Saturday, police confirmed no further criminal offences had been reported.

The Ski Jumping World Cup in Willingen concluded with large crowds and only isolated disruptions. Police handled multiple incidents on Friday night but noted a calm atmosphere during the competition. Traffic and weather-related delays were managed efficiently, ensuring a smooth experience for attendees.
