Wiesbaden's Zietenring area gets a major power grid upgrade by March
ESWE Netz GmbH has initiated a significant upgrade to the power infrastructure in Wiesbaden's Zietenring area. The project, commencing on February 17, will modernize a 20-kilovolt line and a substation between DĂźrerplatz and BĂźlowstraĂe. Work is anticipated to continue until late March, with additional improvements slated for spring 2026.
The current phase concentrates on replacing aging technology, degraded cables, and worn materials in the existing substation. A key aspect of the upgrade involves replacing the 20-kilovolt overhead line to enhance long-term reliability. This initial work will persist through late March.
Lane closures are expected on weekdays from 10 AM to 3 PM to ensure safe and efficient operations. Both sides of the central island will be impacted, though traffic flow will remain manageable. Pedestrians can continue using their usual routes without disruption.
A more extensive modernization is scheduled for spring 2026, lasting around six months. This will include burying the overhead line underground, upgrading the transformer to 25 MVA capacity, and installing new switchgear. Smart grid monitoring systems will also be introduced to enhance the network's efficiency.
The upgrades aim to secure a reliable power supply for the neighborhood. Once completed, the project will reflect Wiesbaden's ongoing efforts to build a more resilient energy grid. Residents and commuters are advised to plan for temporary lane closures during the work.
